Things To Do When Desperate

  • Breathe.

  • Get my teddy bear.

  • Call other bereaved people (keep their numbers available).

  • Call close friends (keep their numbers available, too).

  • Call a hotline.

  • Call a counselor.

  • Get in my rocking chair.  Gat in any chair and let it support me.

  • Take a hot bath.

  • Run around the block three times.

  • Listen to soothing music.

  • Put on a relaxation tape.

  • Ask someone to hold me.

  • Cry.

  • Yell into my pillow.

  • Join a support group.

  • Say to myself, "Others love me," or "I have the right to survive," or "Others have gotten through this, I can too."

  • Stroke the dog or cat.

  • Watch an old movie on TV or read a book.

  • Hug a tree.

  • Stand or lie on the floor and feel the floor support me.

  • Pray.

  • Start again at the top.
